Light drawings

I made some Holograms!
Just to give you an idea of the light drawings (or scratch holograms) I've been doing. More to come on my channel (with links to how it is done- technique courtesy of W Beaty) Just playing around with scratch holography to see whether I can create light drawings which give the appearance of 3D figures. The scratches are made on a piece of plastic which is then held above a light source to illuminate the images. Because of the arcs in the scratches, the image changes depending on the position you view it from. The effect is more striking in person (as each eye sees a slightly different image and this give the illusion of depth).

Just stop thinking, worrying, looking over your shoulder wondering, doubting, fearing, hurting, hoping for some easy way out, struggling, grasping,…Stop it and just DO!…  Don’t worry about cool, make your own uncool. Make your own, your own world. If you fear, make it work for you – draw & paint your fear and anxiety…  You must practice being stupid, dumb, unthinking, empty. Then you will be able to DO!…  Try to do some BAD work – the worst you can think of and see what happens but mainly relax and let everything go to hell – you are not responsible for the world – you are only responsible for your work – so DO IT. And don’t think that your work has to conform to any preconceived form, idea or flavor. It can be anything you want it to be…  I know that you (or anyone) can only work so much and the rest of the time you are left with your thoughts. But when you work or before your work you have to empty you [sic] mind and concentrate on what you are doing. After you do something it is done and that’s that. After a while you can see some are better than others but also you can see what direction you are going. I’m sure you know all that. You also must know that you don’t have to justify your work – not even to yourself.  excerpted from a letter from Sol Lewitt to Eva Hesse (Keri Smith’s blog)

Another one from way back...there are some more positive ones one the way. Promise!

Getting bolder with the pen work!

Old sketch book

I also found an old sketch book today that I hadn't been through in ages- isn't it a lovely feeling? Well here are a couple of sketches. The first one I did when I started my locs (dreads) and the second on a melancholy evening in Malta (I think the lyrics are actually wrong but I like it that way, they really resonated at the time)

More phone camera experiments

And again some further experiments with my phone's image editing capabilities (obviously the original sketch is in the middle). I'm not too sure what I think of the results, they're not really my cup of tea but certainly provide new ideas for future work

Image editting

Just playing with the photo editing effects on my new phone- another little portrait I sketched

Life Drawing

a recent life drawing sketch- wish I'd had athe chance to finish it- what do you think? Any suggestions on how I an improve?

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

Have you seen Sophie Scholl: the final days? Fantastic film (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0426578/) I'd love to know her.

Struggling

So I've been struggling recently. Overwhelmed. Sad. This self portrait I did was the closest I got to expressing these feelings.

Borneo- wood carvings

Inspirational carvings in Borneo. I took this photo from inside a longhouse.

I am one of the searchers

One of those quotes that says everything I want to say but couldn't quite manage:

chalk pastel field.

I like to take my pastels in a small tin in my pocket with a piece of paper when I go running. This way,  if I see something beutiful I can draw it.
This was from a run to one of my favourite fields in Durham- where I first started doing this.

Train doodle

My latest- a train trip doodle...
